I need help!!
My truck won't start,I have a 1990 Ford F-150 pick up that won't turn over.
I thought that I had a bad battery at first so I asked my neighbor if he could let me borrow his battery but it still won't turn over, even with jumper cables, he thinks that I may have a bad starter, but I would like a second opinion, I can't afford to take it to a shop right now, and if I did, I would like to know what my problem is first to avoid getting riped off, it seems like most shops take advantage of women because we don't know much about cars, can somebody tell me what I should check first?

Your friend could be right about the problem in your truck may be a bad starter, but your truck still has a remote starter solenoid mounted on the passenger side inner fender well, you can by-pass the solenoid by using a fused jumper wire across the two big terminals on the sides, if your truck turns over, you may have a bad starter solenoid, to verify if in fact the problem is in the solenoid and not in the ignition switch, use a test light on the small terminal that activates the solenoid, and have a friend try to start the truck, if your test light lights up, the problem is in the solenoid, if it doesn't, the problem could be a bad ignition switch, a bad neutral safety switch if it is automatic, or a bad clutch pedal switch if it has a manual transmission.
I just want to let you know that I had the same problem she had in her truck in my thunderbird, and I did the test on the starter solenoide and I found out that my problem was not the starter, but a bad starter solenoide, good info. it saved me money.
